I'm sure there is a simple way to do this but I can't seem to find it (on wiki and interac..).  As an example I modified *.dff to *.dsf files outside of JRiver and would like to keep the date imported field intact for the file converted. Is there a way to do this?

This would also come in handy when upgrading lossy to lossless files without losing playcounts, date imported etc...  Ironically I know a way of doing it with iTunes but not JRiver !!!  Ironic since JRiver gives us so much flexibility with making changes to the database...
Having the ability to modify the Date imported could be a workaround but this doesn't seem to work.

If I understand what you're trying to do, all you really need to do is use the Rename, Move, and Copy tool to update JRiver's database entries to point to the new file names, which just have their extensions changed.

The linked thread there goes into a lot more detail.  I've done this myself, but it's been a few months and I can't remember every detail.  Read up on it, and try the techniques on a single file.  If you can get that to work, you can do more.

All right now...Why didn't I think of that....

JUST TRIED IT AND IT WORKS PERFECTLY THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE PROMPT AND ACCURATE RESPONSE!!!

For the benefit of other users:  (My own little wiki )

Here is what I will do from now on to avoid losing file info and date imported tags on file changes for the following scenarios:
- if I make filename changes outside of MC on the same file.
- I replace the file from lossy to lossless or to HD

Unselect under library options: Run auto-import in background. I will run it manually
Under Import config: Fix Broken Links to: No
Create a Smartlist to identify missing files: [=IsMissing([Filename])]=1
Backup library just in case...
Then decide if I re-associate the files with Rename, Move, & Copy Files and choose Update to new location making sure the old and new filenames will match (Use find and replace for changed extensions or directories etc...) (please note it's a little different than the Wiki post.)
Or just delete them if really gone.

Voila!!!
