Having just been through (and still working on) a major change in (classical music) tagging strategy with 55'000 tracks, including >1'000 SACD ISOs, I have hit several of the issues associated with SACD ISO handling. Is there a chance that the major and widely known issues will ever be fixed, or do I really need to consider converting all of the ISOs to DSF (which would be another major undertaking).

The three major issues I have seen are:

• SACD ISOs are broken after RM&C: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=96837.0
• No way to save tags adjacent to the file (sidedcar tagging). Sidecar tagging exists for videos
• RM&C moves the music files and ancillary files to the new location, but not folder.jpg. This results in a very messy directory structure, with files associated with one ISO all over the place

I have used a 'poor man's sidecar tagging' approach to preserve my tags through the RM&C my dropping the tags (with delimiters) into the Album directory name and retreiving them upon re-import with 'get tags from filename'. This works for all tags that are identical for all tracks in an ISO, but NOT for track specific tags such as composer.

Question to Matt and Co: Is a fix for these issues on the development schedule, or will SACD ISOs remain as cumbersome to work with as today?

For many months, sidecar tagging for SACD ISOs and CUE files has been the #1 requested feature for MC.

Hopefully, JRiver will comment for the first time on this issue.

Since sidecar files exist for video, there should be lots of existing code that can be reused.

I have about 2,500 mainly classical disc rips in my SACD library.  I have avoided these ISO issues by extracting them to DSF files.  It works just fine.  No issues.

The software is free.  Tags can be saved directly into the DSF media files from the JR library.  There are no sidecars involved.

It would take a while to do the extracts, but it can be done overnight as a batch.  For me, the extracts take less than 15 minutes per disc with Mch DSF output.

Of course, it might be tricky now that you have a library full of tags pointing to the ISOs.  But, I am sure there is a way to convert, though it might be somewhat involved.

You should have listened to Ted_B way back when SACD ripping was getting started.  He recommended DSF extracts from the get go specifically from a JRiver tagging standpoint.

I need to seriously consider moving my ISOs to DSFs instead of putting more work into the ISOs with workarounds.

I will ask how to best approach this batch conversion while conserving as much of my tagging information over in the audiocircle forum.
