servers down?
« on: December 16, 2015, 01:08:15 pm »

went from 20 (no issues in eons) to 21 last night
all clients connected fine.
the last 2 hrs i cannot get clients to connect

I...
upgrade to latest version (was on .23)
rebooted modem, router, server and all clients numerous times.
I went to server and tested connection under media network/access key. and it just stuck on testing server...with no way of stopping it unless i do a End process in task manager.

Any ideas what's going on?
i received an email couple days ago 21 is now the stable/recommended version.
anyone else running into problems?

odd behavior im experiencing... once the server has been rebooted/end processed via task manager then a SINGLE client can connect but once theaterview loads, and i drill down to all genres (videos) not all covers are showing up, And if i try on a different client or the exact same client to reconnect to main server (standard view\file\library click on Family server name. it will not find it or connect, and then the server "family server" must be rebooted, or jriver end tasked.

Thanks.

Anyone else experience problems like these, or have any ideas on how to move forward in troubleshooting it?
Thanks.

* nothing has been changed on the server itself, except installing 21, and uninstalling 20.
On the server i have a virtual machine with another jriver server serving on it which was upgraded to 21 yesterday as well.... that jriver server does not seem to have any problems.

Does your virtual machine share an IP address with your baremetal OS and/or are both your servers listening on the same port?  That would cause a problem like the one you're experiencing.

If that's not it, a troubleshooting step: do you experience the same issues if you try to connect with an IP address instead of an access key?  Let's try to narrow it down a bit.

This virtual machine/bare metal have have been running side by side since ver.18 with no similar problems..20 has worked flawlessly.
The Ip's are the same via a what is my ip .com (ending.233)
bare metal port - 52199
virtual port - 52198

great idea, could you refresh my memory on what's needed to accomplish that ( 192.168.10:52199 ? )
Thanks

one more thing to note (not really related but maybe so), when clicking on the + symbol to add an additional tab jriver locks up (hour glass) for a good 5 minutes, when clicking tabs to close them they close instantly, but when clicking + to add one then jriver locks up.

maybe a bad install?
in the last few hours ive force killed jriver , and rebooted the server itself numerous times.

Really hoping i don't have to start from scratch ( i have numerous views, settings setup and I'm hoping the upgrade from 20 to 21 hasnt messed something up)

just went to client that was previous connected to family server library, (2 hrs ago) and went into audio/ artists and 60% of the covers are empty (shows music note) i then looked at those with music notes for covers, and went back to server and searched for those artists and those artist DO have cover art.

I then went back to file library and clicked on Family library and im locked out w/ retry to load.
and the only way i'd be able to get back in is if i were to force kill jriver family library/server.

well it's now 2:52 pm, and i tested eos, then jremote (and since my last post i have NOT force killed server, or changed any settings, in fact ive been afk for most of it) and eos/jremote both logged in, so i then tried client (which had repetitively been saying retry) file\library\family server, and it immediately connected.

I've done nothing else since... you sure you guys didn't have server problems?

I'm looking at the server's Services & Plugins\Media Network. and it's just flying now... whereas before it was moving from line to line very slowly.

hmm odd. Think i will try periodically today to reconnect to server via various clients. hopefully it's resolved for good :)
