JRiver MC as a Media Controller only.
« on: December 23, 2015, 12:47:33 pm »

I am confused and have read/heard conflicting information regarding using MC, I'm currently on Rls 19, as a Media Controller only. I want to use MC19 to send DSD & FLAC music files from my DLNA-Enabled NAS to my Marantz NA8005 Renderer. I do not want to use the MC19 as a server or have the PC running MC19 in the signal path. I was using the PC running MC19 as a music server and sending music files out of the PC and into my DAC via USB but I want to move away from that setup since I bought the renderer. There seems to be a number of Media Controller apps that run on ios, android and windows and I have tried several, including Bubbleupnp, Kinsky, Windows Media Player and Foobar2000. The GUI on all of these is lacking. I don't want to use a small screen, phone or tablet, so I would really like to continue using MC as a controller only so that I can display it on my TV screen and continue enjoying the great GUI provided by MC. Can any one tell me how to do this or recommend a Windows-based Media Controller app that will do what I described? Thx.

You need to do two things..

1) Let MC load the music library from your DLNA NAS server. This allows MC to see your tracks.
2) Use MC to push tracks from that library to your DLNA renderer. This tells the renderer to play the track from the NAS server.
