Play files in existing instance if one open

Is there a way to only open one instance of MC?

Example - if I have an instance open, then double click on a file in nautilus, this automatically opens a new instance instead of simply playing in the existing instance.

I agree 100%. This is one of the main reasons why I haven't been able to get desktop actions working (yet).
