I have a number of MP3 files which have either single or double quotes in the Filename tag.  I am renaming the filename using the rule

[Track #] - [Name]

However a file such as   Chase (Original 12" Version)
Gets renamed to           Chase (Original 12_ Version)

Is there an option somewhere to prevent MC21 from changing single/double quotes when renaming ?

I can confirm this definitely happens and I can't figure out an easy way around it.  On the other hand, why does it matter?  The file name will be *very* close to the Song Title, just with quotes replaced.  The [Name] field in MC will still be correct.  So the song title is preserved; just not the file name.  Presumably having single or double quotes in a file name might create problems with some programs, as they are delimiters.

Thanks.  The reason why I want the filenames to be clean and match the tags is that with Sonos, when I play a M3U playlist, it shows the filename in the Queue and not the MP3 tags.  But I have other tools to fixup the error after MC renames...

Can this be added to a fixit list please ?

these are all "illegal" for Windows filenames. You can use a ' single quote instead of a double however. Not sure where you can define in JRiver the replacement characters however??

Right you are.  Forgot that the double-quote was an illegal character in Windows...  My bad...

I substituted a double-quote for two single quotes.  That way, it looks visually correct

I see some people already chimed in with this, but it's correct that " is a special character and not usable.

The single quote should pass through the rename tool fine.

Also, the file/folder name cannot end with a period.  Periods are okay in the middle of the name, but not at the end.

This is right.

And the rename tool will strip trailing periods from folder names.
