Hi,

I need help. I tried out JRiver built 21.0.23 under trial status at Audiolinux but unfortunately it was running very slow and didn't give any response for mouse clicks when music started to play. It took me multiple clicks and waiting for it to work, open any menu items or stop the music.

I run Audiolinux OS with headless setup at this computer:

One Cursair 4GB SODIMM Ram is added to the NUC to total of 8GB.

I controlled JRiver via VNC viewer from another tablet.
I have tried out other player under similar condition and they played with no issue. So I don't think it is Audiolinux issue.

Is the version not yet stable and I should try out other version?

We build for Debian.  What is yours based on?  I did a quick search and looks like Arch.  It says Audiolinux is "real time", which is of questionable value for something intended to play music.

I can attest that Media Center is stable on Debian, Ubuntu and Linux Mint.

Media center is stable on actual Arch too (at least at my house).  At least one other user had serious problems trying to run audiolinux due to their kernel tweaks, so I would recommend using a mainstream distro.  Take it for what it's worth, but my view is that distros like audiolinux don't really provide added value in this application over something nice and stable like Debian.  Debian's easy to install, easy to maintain, and just works with MC.  If you're planning to use the device as a music playing appliance driven by MC, it's literally the best option.  If you're planning on using the computer as a general purpose computer as well, you'd be better off with something like Ubuntu or Mint.

Hi,

I found out to have smooth interaction with Audiolinux, should use JRemote or GIZMO client accessing JRiver running in server mode only at the batckground of Audiolinux, not in GUI mode. The million dollar question is how to turn on media server mode only at JRiver which will only run in server mode at the background when Audiolinux start up?

Could you guys tell me what to change in settings to enable server mode? Thank you very much.

After I boot Audiolinux in command prompt line interface, I typed the following at command prompt:

ps -e | grep mediacenter || mediacenter21 /mediaserver

It said Mediacenter : unable to open X display (null)

But if I log into Audiolinux in GUI mode, I open QTerminal to type in above command, JRiver is opened until I cancel the command.


What is the issue? Thanks.

In MC settings, turn on Media Network and tell MC to run Media Server on startup of the OS.  See the topic called "Media Server" on our wiki.

Mediacenter requires an xserver to run even in server mode.

I have booted up Audiolinux into command line mode. How do I check for running of xserver? I checked ps -e and htop but didn't find mediacenter or xserver. Do I need/how do I configure the cron to allow auto start of server mode?

I have set the settings at JRiver to enable network and for startup I set Linux to run Mediacenter.

The xserver is the GUI. You can't run MC from the console without a GUI running.

You have to run the GUI to run Media Server, as far as I know.

You need to run the GUI to run Media Center at all in any mode.

I'm confused about what you're asking?  Are you asking how to start the GUI in your distro?

Wouldn't it be better to reinstall the OS and start over? Looks like Audiolinux had an update yesterday and it ships with Xfce.

EDIT: Looks like MC, which isn't free, is being bundled with Audiolinux. Is that correct? If so I wonder about the legalities for doing so when Audiolinux itself isn't free either. In my opinion, Audiolinux is just another example of audiophile snake oil. You're probably better off using Debian, Ubuntu or Mint.

If he's not violating the GPL in multiple ways, I'll eat my hat.

Snake oil of the highest degree, I note from a quick skim through his threads he's even gone as far as blacklisting onboard sound cards by default.....
Add some completely misleading images on the front page-
Some of oscilloscope readings he's so proud of are from different motherboards (And I presume power supplies....), and there's no details on what was actually happening in the background on any given run.
He also shows he can use a jack configuration app.

Take this, and chuck in the bin.
To be blunt, it's just as bad as the Jplay scam.

When I boot up Audiolinux, it has few options and the default is log into Audiolinux with GUI running on LXQt desktop environment. JRiver autostart settings is set at LXQt session settings at Autostart with value:

/bin/bash -c \\\\"/use/bin/mediacenter21 & sleep 10; sudo /home/audiolinux/Programmi/alsa-jack/Player_priority.sh wait\\\\"

So now I want to log in another option which is Audiolinux in Command Line and want to run media server, which JRiver will be much responsive and quicker. Now how do I run the gui session in the command line? The x11vnc is running at the background at Audiolinux with GUI mode.

I agree with the comments above.  Please use Debian or another of the distro's discussed here.
