NEW DAC, NEW JRiver, DSD, not using enough bits
« on: March 12, 2016, 11:57:57 am »

I downloaded the latest jriver.
I have a new dac (TEAC UD-503)
I am playing a DSD file.
I have JRiver output encoding turned off.
The TEAC DAC is reporting it is playing PCM and JRiver "AUDIO PATH" indicates source=DSF "not using enough bits to output directly"

I don't want JRiver to do any encoding, just play whatever format the song is in.

A member called me and told me to change the bitstreaming from none to dsd and that fixed it.

So if i play a non-dsd file now, will i have to change bitstreaming back to none?
I would think this should be an "automatic" setting based on the file type being played??

That setting tells MC what types of files to bitstream.  So, it will only bitstream DSD files with your current setting.  All other file types will be processed as normal through your DSP Studio selections.

It's designed to work automatically very much like you were expecting.  :)

ok, thanks...only one more question.

JRiver says the source files are 5644 bit rate, but the teac is only displaying 2.8...shouldn't it be displaying 5.6?

Perhaps the DAC doesn't support DSD128, but only DSD64?

All my DSD 64 files say the same thing but i wouldn't worry as my DAC's driver window shows the correct sample rate and the indicator on the DAC shows it as decoding DSD. Heck my DSD 128 files show a bitrate of 5644800 but they still decode correctly. Just remember bitrate does not necessarily indicate sample rate or bit depth.
