I love the fact the you can create derived fields with the expression language on the Manage Library Fields dialog. It would be *great* to be able to see the results of your expression while on this screen. Today, you  have to make a change, close the dialog, go find a representative file, examine your new field and hope it is right. If it is not, you have to go back in, find the new field, edit it, and repeat. Being able to see the results of changes to the expression right within the dialog (or within a robust expression editor screen) would really simplify things.

I normally add a temporary Expression column to whatever view I'm working on.  I'll then edit the expression there.  When you close the editor you get immediate results on the screen.  Once the expression is complete I'll remove the temporary column.  Not entirely elegant, but a decent short cut when creating and validating new expressions.
