Buffering issue preventing track playing through
« on: March 30, 2016, 11:22:23 am »

Hello again,

Having just downloaded latest version of JRiver MC 21 from your link and as advised by the company representative the buffering issue remains (external drive). Can this be sorted out? If not the programme is not fit for purpose. I also have 17 on the same machine they are not running simultaneously however. I am reticent to delete 17 as it does at least work some of the time. Beginning to regret the master licence purchase this morning - should have saved the money and put Audirvana on the Mac and stumbled on with a glitchy 17 on the PC - which is at least capable of playing a track through. Using the Chord mojo driver (Wasapi).

Can anyone offer any useful advice?

thanks

You could try setting Options > Audio > Prebuffering.

The default of 6 seconds might not be enough if you have a really slow drive.

Thanks Matt :)

Will try that now - it is not a problem in 17 so doubt the drives the issue - unless 21 cannot handle drives that 17 can. I have so far set to 500 milliseconds in another buffer setting - no difference. Will try your idea and thanks for offering some help (any ideas on my other posts I'm having a tough time with JRiver sorry to say :(.

Nope - set to 10 and then 20 seconds - I was careful to stop play first and between each attempt. Problem remains - at one point no sound at all.
What do you think is going on (or not) ::) - 17 still works and 21 recognises chord mojo dac so not a Dac issue.

perhaps you can create a Log showing the crash - then MC devs might be able to see what's wrong. Go to Help>Logging and make sure there is a checkmark in "enable" logging. Then the  next time MC crashes, restart the program and go to Help>Logging and click on "Report Problem", then attach that log to you post.

Are you running antivirus software?

What is it?

Are the files on a USB drive?

What is it?

I think the drive is a wd 2tb, the antivirus is bull guard - not usually intrusive and if it wants to be it gives a permission screen.

Are you playing DSD with the "play files from memory" option enabled?

Tim, Can you post your computer's JMark score? It at Help>Benchmarking.

The score might help others here understand what your computer is capable of (i.e. if it's weak/slow or not).

Uninstall it to test.  It's the only way to know.
