Windows 8.1 or 10 for MC21?
« on: April 04, 2016, 09:59:06 am »

Hi,

I'm not sure whether this belongs in the "PCs and other hardware" forum since it's not a hardware question but a Windows question. Please move it if you need to, admins.

I'm about to install Windows 8.1 or 10 on a second hard drive in my HTPC, which is running Win 7 still. Is Win 10 stable enough and with good enough driver support, or is it safer to go with Win 8.1? My motherboard and CPU are not officially supported by Asus/Intel, but I guess Windows 10 has generic drivers to make it work.

EDIT: Because of 3D functionality staying with 7 is not an option.

Stick with 8.1 for now if you're using it for ROHQ (madVR) video playback.

Why? Because of the drivers, I guess? Otherwise, 10 is good and stable.

Stick with 8.1 for now if you're using it for ROHQ (madVR) video playback.

ROHQ is working fine here on Windows 10 on AMD hardware.

Now that Microsoft seems to have quashed the Start Button crashing glitch (for me, some others still seem to be having it) I'm having no problems with Windows 10, and overall like it better than 8.1.

Drivers were definitely rough for a while, though. I suppose it might depend on your specific hardware.
