JRemote iPad Zone Setting?
« on: May 23, 2016, 10:49:51 am »

JREMOTE APP for the Ipad quick question.  Please advise.

On the iPad JRemote starting the JRiver App and it says connected to MacBook Pro

I now always have to switch the ZONES to >this devicd to player. It's annoying.
How can the ipad go directly to the player once I start.

Thank you, Steven

JRiver Support: Please HELP!

Apparently I didn't sum up my issue. I would like to know how come when I start up my JRemote iPad APP it doesn't immediately select the "player".  For the remote to work I have to always toggle the zone from this "this device" to "player"
And this after I start up Macbook Pro etc.

Thank you in Advance.

It sounds like you are turning OFF your Mac in between JRemote sessions.  I'm just guessing, but maybe if JRemote sees the server disappear, it knows it can't play to the server zone anymore and switches to "this device".

If you were to kill JRemote, then turn off the Mac, then turn the Mac back on, and finally start JRemote, that might be the correct sequence so it never thinks it needs to go back to "this device" as a zone.

To kill JRemote, press and hold the home button.  When you get the list of running apps, swipe JRemote up, off the screen, and that will kill it.  You could reboot the ipad instead if you want.  Killing the app is probably faster.

Give it a try and see how it works.

Hi Brian: Definitely not the case. I only turn the JRemote App on the iPad after the MacBook Pro is on and the JRiver 21 Software.
Then I turn on my Rig.

Then I start the JRmote App. It seems to not recognize until I change the zone to player.

The question is how can I always have it set on player without having to switch over from "this device" to "player" ?

Thank you for your Response.

Unless you power down or reboot your Ipad, you never "stop" JRemote.  It stays running in the background.  That's how IOS apps work.  You need to explicitly kill it in order to stop JRemote.  This much I'm sure of.  Whether or not it will help your situation, I'm not sure, but I'm hopeful.  :)

It's a pretty quick experiment to do.

Nope didn't work. it immediately starts up with "this device" not the "player"
There must be a simple solution?

Well darn.  I was mostly guessing anyway.  I don't use JRemote (I use EOS and Gizmo), but this definitely sounds like unusual behavior.  I think it's somehow tied to the fact that you power down your server all the time.  But that's just another guess!  :)

Good luck.

Tap the Settings button
Tap the i in the circle to the right of your server's name in the "YOUR SERVERS" list
There are settings below the Authentication section. Swipe up to reveal them. Turn off "Set zone to 'This device' on connect."
