That WTV issue...
« on: January 24, 2016, 01:36:06 pm »

Hi,

I am relatively new to MC and installed the latest version to replace Windows Media Center on my new Windows 10 machine.

I have many .WTV files recorded on my old PC with WMC under Windows 7. They work perfectly fine under W7 on any player I tried, they also play fine on this machine under W10 with VLC player.

When I try to play them in MC, I get the German version of that well-known message "Failed to connect audio decoder/splitter".

I noticed this has been discussed here before, but failed to find a solution

Any suggestions?

Many thanks,
Holger

life can be so easy... solved it by (re-)installing ffdshow.

FFDshow is not required normally.  Red October uses LAV filters that can handle wtv files that are not DRM'ed.  Are you using custom filters or just Red October?

well, back after a long time... long story also.

thx for looking at this back in January.

I had it working on my old HTPC, now have a new one (Intel NUC i5 4250), installed MC21.0.83 under Win 10 and the same problem... failed to connect audio... when I try to play WTV, both with RO standard and HQ. tried various audio parameters, but no change.

any suggestions?

Many thanks.

There is a post here http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=105331.0 about a problem with WTC playback, where developer Hendrik said he found a problem and will correct it in the next build (build .88 I assume).

I saw that, but it seems to be a different issue. The error msg I get is not mentioned in the thread.
My WTVs do not playback at all.

Still, will wait for next build as suggested and check again if there are no other ideas. Thank you for now.

Does your computer have internet access when you try playing a video?

Are you using Red October Std, HQ, or Custom?  Your post in January about updating FFDShow seems to suggest that you use Custom.  Try Standard or HQ if you are not already using them.
