JRiver MC 20 / MC21 causes Lag (with comparision images)
« on: June 13, 2016, 02:11:40 pm »

Hi,

while playing Music in JRiver MC20/MC21 over ASIO/WASAPI causes small freezes. Like if i type here, my typing comes sometimes one second later on the screen. Could that because USB Prioritizing? It does immediately stop if i stop playing audio in JRiver.
The Problem persists on a blank Windows 7 / Windows 8 / Windows 10 installation with nothing but JRiver installed.

Configuration:

I7-2600k (default) settings @BIOS
GA-Z77X-UD3H

16GB Corsair Vengeance 1333mhz

Bequiet Dark Power Pro 11
nVidia GTX 770

Mainboard USB Port 1 -> O2ODAC
OS:Windows 10 x64 but problem persists since Windows 7

Mainboard -> PCIe USB Controller Renesas -> Mouse,Keyboard

Windows Settings: Energy saving -> off (even for USB) followed outdated https://www.ableton.com/en/help/article/optimize-windows/

If i use Media Player Classic with DirectSound it never happens. It's really annoying. Sometimes even if i write here and press the Space letter it comes to late and instead itslikethis.

I could test with an PS/2 Keyboard. But it doesnt change a thing. There is just a initial delay before my Input comes. It feels random. But it's at least all 3 seconds in average.
There are Java based Games out. I dont know if JRiver is based on Java, but could it interfere?

What could i do? It's about 1 and a half year. But i didnt created a Thread. Already tried so much of different Setups...

Please help :)

I wonder. While Windows is fresh installed(?). So i guess if its an anti virus problem from Windows 7 to Windows 10 all Windows Defender services are a hinderance for JRiver?

If a Song ends and a Song starts there is that small freeze too. Its about a second. Could it be an buffering issue?

I post now a comparision Chart where u can see that there are even FPS losses and Spikes.

I would try to find new drivers for your USB controller and/or the DAC. Also try different buffering settings.

Highering buffer does only make the Problem less frequent but it wont solve the Problem.
Did tried now all Buffering options and the Problem isnt solved.
All of my Drivers are up2date. For The O2ODAC REV A exists only 1 Driver for the Tenor TE7022L Soundchip which is already included my Microsoft.
Driver Date is 29.10.2015 and the Version is 10.0.10586.0

Anoying-----------------
This is with JRiver https://i.gyazo.com/041254b2cff028e5924a4dcb8a94c6f0.png ASIO, Buffer 64
Same Problem JRiver with WASAPI https://i.gyazo.com/21c2b49b2eb150d05ab00c7d8ea8b3aa.png

Acceptable-------
And this without JRiver any Audio playing https://i.gyazo.com/02d9d1dec6e2115f16e45d02e3980ebf.png
This with Media Player Classic https://i.gyazo.com/c89a9cc836997cfb0d01eda648b59eac.png WASAPI

Really with this Lag my Game isnt playable for me competively! And it also is a problem when typing for me.
Paid for JRiver MC20 and MC21. Both Versions do have those Problems. It doesnt matter which Mode i use for Audio Playback in JRiver.

Why does JRiver have the worst score in the End?

Report of LatencyMon (Win 10) Duration ~ 1 Minute

Info: First i did press Play a Song in JRiver (opus) format then i opened up my game and did the measuring.

You can always use DirectSound in MC, if the WASAPI and ASIO drivers for your audio device seem to cause such problems for you.

Works flawlessly. Thanks.

But what i dont understand is that Media Player Classic can use "exclusive mode" with the default audio renderer selected. I thought WASAPI only does allow exclusive access and not DirectSound (default Renderer). If it would be WASAPI, then there is a big difference in Lag between Media Player Classic WASAPI and JRiver Media Center WASAPI.

Was configured to DirectSound--
Used Media Player Classic BE @WASAPI and the same result. Its really the DAC / USB Problem.

Please also add it to the FAQ! It isnt there. I did search for what could cause Mouse Lag and so on. Those spikes did lock each Time the command queue or something. You couldn't type without problems.

Solved! This solved my Problems:

My Settings

Found here

For reference: Open Device in Exclusive mode can make a lot of Lag
Also untick the exclusive mode in the Sound Card settings

But is there a Point using WASAPI non exclusive? I mean does it differ from DirectSound then? got my answer for this ! http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=105514.0
