For multizone should have use the same sound card
« on: August 09, 2003, 07:53:08 pm »

If I am setting up my PC for multizone playback and I better off using several of the same cards or should I use different sound cards ?

You can use one multichannel card and address each stereo pair... Something like the Revo 8ch card will give you 4x stero pairs...

Or, if you want to do it a LOT cheaper, get a few old Soundblaster Live! 5.1 and use the KX drivers. Then eah card will give you three stereo pairs, and at least here in Norway you can get those used for less than $ 20. A real bargain! I have had three of them in one computer, and it worked perfectly. Just stay away from the older 4.1 cards, they will not work well together. On some of my computers I use a mix of several different sound cards, and that's not a problem at all as long as the drivers are different (you'd be surprised how many makes are simply the same sound chip in another package).
