Controlling cisco boxes with jriver remote function
« on: August 10, 2016, 10:31:37 am »

My cable company decided to scramble even basic channels so now I'm trying to find a way to integrate my TV service with JRiver without buying a cable card compatable HD Homerun box.  I have an HD homerun box already, and I'm thinking that I can pipe my cable signal from the wall, to the cable box, and into the HD homerun for DLNA support, and so that I can watch channels through jriver without messing with an HD capture card.  If I do this, will jriver's remote control function be able to control the box, and will this setup even work.  Thanks.  BTW. The cable box is a cisco DTA 250HD.  Thanks

I don't know about the HD Homerun boxes, but I tried this with my Hauppauge capture card when I had Directv and it was doable but due to copy-protection it would only save input as less than 1080i. There was some audio-video sync issues and remote didn't work as smoothly as it needed to - so eventually I gave up.

Now I just use my Harmony Hub remote - one button for starting Netflix and one button for MC movies/music/recordedTV. At least for me it was not so important that everything went through MC program, but rather that it was easy to start whatever service/program I wanted with one button press (that's where the programmable Harmony remote comes in).

Good luck
