Z-wave security
« on: August 14, 2016, 08:58:31 pm »

I've been toying around with the idea of jumping into the whole home automation thing but I'm also concerned about security.  Here is a recent article about z-wave security where some security researchers have built a toolkit for discovering vulnerable z-wave devices.  Some good news for JRiver users is the recommended devices around this forum support encryption but the user has to enable it in some devices, particularly these Aetotec lights.  Everyone using z-wave should read this article in my opinion, and enable encryption on their smart devices.  I'm putting this up because security is always a concern for me.  Aeotec is saying their Gen5 products support encryption.  I'm not claiming that jriver, and every protocol it uses is completely secure, but I think this is good news, and might ease some fears.
