Band and Orchestra Tag question
« on: July 05, 2016, 03:29:19 pm »

Hi,

for tagging my favorite program is Helium. But there Band and Orchestra is just one field.
In JRiver these are two separated fields and they are empty with what i tagged in Helium?

If you make a custom field with the *exact* same name as the helium one, it should show up in MC

I did look here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ID3
It seems like normally this is just one field?

Is there a way to distinguish between ID3 standard fields and JRiver fields?
You say i need to make a custom field - but to me it looks like the Band/Orchestra separated fields are custom :)

Edit 1:
Hm, i thought this ID3 stuff is standardized but it seems like it's not.
Just realized that "release year" from Helium does not show up in JRiver and Windows File-explorer.
I have to put the year into "recording year" to see it anywhere else.
I thought "release year" is the whole album and "recording year" the song?

Edit 2:
Ok, i made a field Band/orchestra and that did not work. So i figured out i need to use the internal DB name.
I found in Helium what is in the attachment.
So i can make a field for everything what Helium has...
Is there a way to distinguish the fields i made and the JRiver standard ones?
Since i need to name the field the same like in Helium i can't use a prefix like myfield_

there are many tag standards, id3 is only one of them

http://wiki.hydrogenaud.io/index.php?title=Tag_Mapping

the tag you noticed in the wiki link, TPE2 (which is Band/Orchestra in the link) has become Album Artist for the vast majority of tagging programs

JRiver is compatible with all of the major tagging standards, but this compatibility has the effect that it's not always going to work how you think it will...

i don't see this band/orchestra field anywhere...

do you mean album artist?  JRiver should have already gotten those ones.

Sorry forgot that one. It's called ENSEMBLE in Helium.
After creating that in JRiver it works.

But as i wrote: How to know the fields I created?

AFAIK there is no way to know which ones you've created, sorry.

note, that this isn't really a "custom" tag since it matches another tag from another program...it's a "compatible" tag.  Helium should see any data that you've tagged with JRiver as well in the new ENSEMBLE tag

Just saw that if i select on top "Show only user fields" i see only the fields i created.
Is this not the way to see my selfmade fields?

I also found out you can use the fields for sorting.
Do you guys have some kind of naming pattern you use to know for what you made this field.
Something like "group_by_album_origyear" ?

I made origyear because i want to group by the original year of an album and not the release of an reissue or remaster.

I see JRiver is really flexible but wow there is allot of work to do to set it up. I'm scared to keep track of all the custom fields and customization :)
