My dad had the issue on two computers and I've had the issue on two computers. My dad systematically started uninstalling all unused programs on his computers and found that uninstalling Media Center 20 on both computers solved the issue. I then did the same to both of my computers with the issue. I no longer have any Start bar issues. I don't think MC20 was even being used on the computers when they were upgraded to Windows 10.

For those with the issue, I'm curious if MC20 is still installed on your PC.

I see the same thing here, but usually a restart of the "Explorer.exe" task from task manager will sort me out without going through a full restart.

Anyone update to the anniversary edition and have this problem still? Downloading it now.

Just FYI I ran into this:

It claims MS has made a repair tool for this but the link doesn't go to MS so I wouldn't trust downloading it and I can't find the claimed to be MS fix on the MS site anywhere with search. I wouldn't be so sure if it is actually legit or not. I'm not going to chance running that file though since it isn't directly from MS.

No it is not fixed. Any app that gets suspended running under the shellexperiencehost.exe crash's. That means searchui.exe,systemsettings.exe, winsore.exe, microsoftphotos.exe, microsoftweather.exe (and any other app you run). You have to terminate each and every one them, (if you use them). I uninstalled jriver media center and the problem goes away, which sucks really. There is an operability problem between shellexperiencehost.exe and MC. I doubt this will be fixed by Microsoft , as the system runs fine with everything else. I was hoping the JRiver Devs could find a way around it.

Yes, I can confirm that unfortunately the Anniversary update has not cured the issue on my systems.

BTW I have an updated version of my powershell script (mc_mcws.ps1) that only terminates processes if they are suspended, anyone interested in me publishing it?
