Is there a way to have an artist albums sorted by the year they were released/recorded. So, when i view the specific artist I would see the 1st album followed by second and so on. If possible, I would like the main artist and album view to still sort alphabetically.

Sure.  That's how I have mine sorted.  Artists are alphabetical.  Then when I click an Artist, I see their albums in chronological order.  Just click the menu at the top of the albums and select to sort by Date (oldest first).  See attached screen shot.
