Something i seen a few months ago i thought was neat was a USB 2.0 Flash Drive.

Today when i was at best buy spending some money buying paintshop pro 8 and a under desktop keyboard hlder. I found my self looking at the flash drive again.

They had flash drives from 32megs to 256megs so i bought the PNY 256 meg version so i can move music and other files from my computer to my wife's computer from time to time as needed. and since the computer sees it as a drive you can play your music directly from it.

after playing with it for 15 mins i just love this thing.

I've got one too, and I wonder how I lived without it.

I will take the latest beta of 9.1 to a friends house this weekend on it, intall right from it.

USB sure has come far since Win98.

Mine cost $60 after rebate for 256mb.  That was about a month ago, they may be cheaper now.

I'm coming to the States next week and I just see that J&R in New York have a PNY 512 MB at $119,00 whilst the 256 MB is $69,00... I may buy one of those for carrying files from office to home instead of burning them onto CDs

Those small drives contain 2.5" hd's and require no extra power supply, which is a good thing, they are powered from the usb port.  But they are way expensive.

CompUSA has 80 gig extenal hd's for $100 this week, that come with an external power supply.  Pain, but the price difference for having or not having an external power supply is high.

This is obvious topic diversion (sorry, KingSparta), but external hard drives (the less expensive ones) are a real good way to make backups of your Media Center library. Backups are important, especially with as much work and care we all put into our libraries!

CompUSA has 250 gig USB2 and Firewire external  hd's for $280 this week.  I got 2 for music backups.

In fact, I have a Maxtor 160 GB Firewire External hard drive which I'm very happy with, were I have part of my music. What I was looking for, however, is for something really "portable" to carry files fom home to office and vice-versa. Maxtor even advises that the Firewire External hard drives are not intended to be used as "portable" devices but as "external" drives. This is why I was interested in a flash-drive like King's, which can be put in your pocket, but was also considering the LaCie unit which is really a portable one.

One of the greatest "features" of the USB Flash Memory devices is that Win2000 and WinXP have the drivers installed by default.  For anyone in a corporate environment , this is a big deal!

I have both 256 and 512 CF cards for my digital cmera, with my pocket-sized USB card-reader  can use these as handy transports for music, photos, software, etc.
Would even be nice to find an mp3 player that uses them.
Standardization results in convenience as well as cost savings.

Still wouldn't mind an external USB hard drive

I bought a 256MB Lexar JumpDrive 2.0 Pro earlier this year for $60 after rebate.  I originally used it at school.  It was great, since sometimes our files would not fit on a floppy.  Now I use it to transfer files between my laptop here at home, and my desktop at the ex-wife's house.

I can run my e-mail client, PocoMail 3 from my JumpDrive! Even running from there, it's still more responsive than most e-mail clients.
