No playback when connected remotely

I haven't played much with MC22 for Mac yet, but this week I'm away from my home network and I'm getting no actual playback on the mac.  I can via JRemote and Panel (WebGizmo) so the firewall is certainly setup correctly.  And when I change MC on the mac to play locally, works fine.  MC for mac connects to the library, I see all my files.  When I hit play on a song from the remote library, the playback has no audio, and skips every 2 seconds (the display says 0:02, then 0:04, then 0:06, etc).  When it gets to 0:10, it advances to the next track. 

This may be related to bandwidth at the server side, but I'd expect MC to simply cache for longer to accommodate that.  I'm playing back simple FLAC16 files, nothing like DSD or ISOs.
