Selective DSD -> PCM conversion
« on: October 09, 2016, 01:47:08 pm »

I have a DAC which accepts DSD64 and DSD128, but not DSD256. I have a (slowly) increasing number of DSD256 files.
It would be great if DSP Studio's sample rate table could be expanded to be able to chose the behavior for the different DSD rates, in addition to the PCM rates it currently lists. For each DSD sample rate I would like to be able to chose whether it should be transmitted to the DAC as DSD or whether it should be converted to PCM.

In the mean time, you can make a zone specifically for 4xDSD.  Set up the audio conversion in this zone to convert to PCM.  Make a zone switch rule that activates only on 4xDSD material and sends it to that zone.

The only real down side is that mixed playlists of (for example) 1xDSD and 4xDSD won't get separated properly.  But as long as you play albums, or all DSD of the same rate, all should work correctly in the proper zone.

Thanks, Brian
I thought about setting up two zones, but didn't think about automatic zone switch.
That solves it for the moment
