Hi,

I have an Id Pi connected to a usb DAC and a usb hard drive. I'm having some issues getting the DAC to function consistently, it seems to cut out when I load a large playlist. I think the power draw on the hard drive and DAC simultaneously is too much for the Pi 3.

Using a powered hub isn't an option, I am building a portable car installation.

I did a little research and there is a config line that increases the amount of power to the usb ports:

How can I open a terminal to modify this and add the line? I can't seem to connect via putty SSH or figure out how to open the terminal from the Id Pi desktop.

The hardware I am using is the Fiio K1 USB DAC and a 1TB 2.5 inch Toshiba hard drive, connected to the Vilros Kit Rasp Pi 3 running ID.

I have tested the combination with a several power supplies, all rated at the suggested 5v 2.1 amps (some are 3 amps). All have the same trouble, the DAC works at first, then cuts out when I have a lot of hard drive activity (browsing big albums, loading large playlists, shuffling big album collections, etc.)

Pi ID is still responsive via JRemote and browsers, DAC just doesn't work after it cuts out. Reboot often fixes the playback issue, but Dac will cut playback again after big HD power draws.

I switched the DAC to a Beheringer UC202 and things seem to work fine so far.
