I have seen this question posted several times but have never seen a reply to it.
Let me start by asking - Is there anyone out there who actually sees cover art in Playin Now when listening to files over Media Server? If so what are the circumstances.
I have .ape files on a server with all cover art embedded in the files. When I listen over Media Server over the same network all I see is the generic MC icon.
I have tried numerous things and know other people have the same problem.
Is it just not possible?
Is there a special handshake necessary to learn the secret?

they stated on one of the recent builds of MC 9.1 that this is fixed.

I have not tested it however.

Actually, I must confess that my main server machine still has 9.0.180, I haven't had the nerve to upgrade.
My client machine, however, runs 9.1.222.
I will go and experiment.

I just installed MC 9.1.222 on another machine and instead of getting the generic MC icon, I get the old windows icon with the red cross in it that tells me it is actually looking for an image but can't find one.
So, I can confirm that it doesn't work.
And I am still unaware of anyone that has ever seen it work.
Any suggestions??

I run Media Server on my main machine. Over 13500 MP3s, All cover art is in the album folder as a file ("Folder.jpg").

My client sees cover art no probs, either from playing now, track info templates, visualisations etc etc.

9.1.221 is running at both ends...

This pretty much summarizes the bug.

If the cover art is in the same folder as the media file, or in a folder below it, then the server stores the cover art filename as a relative path, which results in successful retrieval when it is sent to the client.

Otherwise, the cover art filename is stored as an absolute path.  This works fine on the local machine, but does not when using the server because the client can't find the file.  I don't know if this is because the client is trying to look on the local machine, or if the server can't grok a filename with an absolute path.

I do find it surprising that the reason (absolute vs. relative filename) behind this problem hasn't been pinned down by anyone (especially the developers) before this.

Can confirm bug for both type of cover art - inside file (ape and wma) and absolute pathname.
In both cases cover art is not displayed! The second one is obvious as the absolute path refers to the path on the server machine! In this case there should be some type of pathname translation. The first case is definetely a bug on my machines.

On the other hand images are displayed properly as thumbnails!

Well it seems like LunchmeatVoom is the only person to have had this work.
What's your secret?
I too have my .jpg in the same folder as the .ape's although I also have the artwork buried in the files. Maybe I should experiment with that!!
I did find that I see artwork through Remote Server on the song info screens but never through Media Server.
If anyone has anymore suggestions, keep'em comin'

OK ...that was it!
It seems that the only way this will work is having your file structure just as LunchmeatVoom has it.
The .jpg has to be in the same folder as the music files and you must NOT have the image also embedded in the music file.
Weird.
Now, my 6000 .ape files all have artwork embedded in them...Should I purge them of the artwork just so I can see images through Media Server.
What are the advantages / Disadvantages of doing this.
Maybe, I'll start a new thread.
