Hey Mouse,

LONG time no see. Where you been? I take it your just trying v9.1 for the first time.

First thing's I'd suggest - dont try to use your old view schemes in v9.1 if you want to give panes a try - think and plan them out from scratch - it works a lot better.

If you want to on the other hand create ones like in 9 then check the box to 'populate tree' and go into  tools/options/tree + view settings - and check the box for items to auto expand.

Have fun trying it out :)

I like the new view schemes how you can group everything within a group. Also how it shows the correct icon when using [media type]. And how to show items in a group (root).

Only thing that needs improving is the sorting of the schemes. top and bottom don't do it for me and I know others would like sorting too...because I see it in almost every screenshot of MC.

1) blah blah
2) blah blah X2

or

A. this space for rent
B. ha ha! I'm sorting my view schemes!!1

I think MC should just remember where you put it. This would make the most sense instead going through a lot of options to get it to almost where you want it.

Hi Mouseman -
Are you asking how to make view scheme trees in the left-side panel, ala 9.0? If so, here's the procedure:

Create your new view scheme with the Media Library right-click menu. If you choose 'Custom' you'll immediately get to define properties in a popup window. The same window can be called with 'Edit Selected View Scheme' from the right-click menu of the view scheme.

In this popup, choose 'Populate Tree' - this just tells MC to let you use a tree instead of just panes for that view scheme.

Make sure your view scheme is selected and that panes are visible. Choose the panes you want to display by right or left clicking on the column header - if it's a new custom scheme this will say 'Empty (click here to configure)'. So with this menu you can add or remove panes and move them left or right. Each pane that you add will be a level of the tree. The leftmost pane will be the highest level of branch in the tree. The next pane to the right will be a branch nested under the first, and so on.

Reading the above seems more complicated than it is in practice. There doesn't seem to be any way to avoid using the panes to set up or configure the tree. Apologies if this is not even what you were asking for  ;)

If your after grouping - create the view scheme as phelt said, then right click on the panes and choose properties or something like that - then u can set the grouping level there.

This should give you it grouped again for your mobile (flash git!! :) )

U haven't posted anything in ages, we were starting to think you'd disappeared!!

Make some skins for v9.1 - it's lacking some and you were always good at skins :)

That should feed your seeming unending desire to be making stuff :)

phelt: Thank you for your step-by-step instructions on creating new custom pane views! I had no idea I could even click on the pane headers and reconfigure them. I know, I'm a bit slow I guess. :P The strange thing is, I program for a living, you'd think I notice these things!

I think a few new users have this problem too - I'm not a new user and I did till I posted in this forum for help.

I REALLY think some kind of prompt needs to come up after a view scheme is created/first time one is used explaining to the user this feature in a nice simple step by step manner as phelt did.

Introduce little things like this to mean we can add more powerful features without confusing new users by simply explaining to the new users how they work interactively :)
