I downloaded media center, installed it and started the upgrade.  It has stopped at file 4623 of 6411.

Any suggestions on what I should do now?

MJ (especially) and MC are both sensitive to bad tagging (best case: skips the file <=> worst case: stops the import process cold or...they crash). If you can determine what file(s) they are hanging on then you could move them out of the import directory until you find out what's wrong with them. At least you would get most of your library imported this way.

edit: How did you upgrade to 9? Right over 8 or did you uninstall 8 then install 9? Clean installs are always the best way to go when upgrading between versions.
