How powerful is the RPi for MC?

I'm thinking of a music-only setup as follows:
Asus Xonar U7 external USB soundcard
Raspberry Pi 3
MC with DSP

This would use the DSP options to drive a digital active system, using the crossover system built into MC. I do this with my main system that uses Windows.

Questions:
1 - is the Pi 3 sufficiently powerful for this?
2 - is it OK to run the pi headless once it's set up? I would use an android device for control.

1) Maybe?  It depends on how you do your correction.  It's powerful enough for some amount of PEQ-based DSP.  It's probably not powerful enough for long convolution filters.  If you can describe how you do your filtering I can give you a "best guess" based on my testing.

2) Definitely, have a look at the headless instructions at the end of my Pi quick start guide.

Sounds promising. The crossover is fairly simple - three ways, probably fourth order, and with a bit of delay for time alignment. No convolution or complex room correction.

I would expect that to work, especially on an RPi3, so long as you aren't trying to do any heavy realtime transcoding.

Cool, thanks. I have an emergency Windows laptop that I could use at a push, but the Pi solution is much cleaner. I shall order some bits and bobs soon!

Just FYI, you might have to do some tweaking to get the U7 to work properly in Linux.  I have one and did get it working, but I recall it required a bit of configuration.

Are there any decent sounding USB 7.1 cards that work out of the box?

I'm not familiar with any external ones that work without any tinkering but I've only tried a few; most of the internal 7.1 cards work pretty well but that's no help for a Pi.  If the device advertises UAC2 compliance there's a good chance it will work out of the box on Linux.
