Saving tag changes (x remaining)
« on: January 04, 2013, 05:23:25 pm »

This text occupies the bottom toolbar almost constantly for me while editing music and I haven't found a way to show the regular text "xxxx Files (X bytes - X time)" which I at all times wish could be there. How do I do this?

MC shows "Saving Tag Changes (x remaining)" when a file tag cannot be updated because the file is locked. Stopping playback does the trick in most cases.

Anyway: this behavior of MC annoys me, too. Because as long as the file is playing which MC tries to update there is no change to get any other (more important) information at the status bar.

I have a request in another thread, to modify the behavior.:

Somewhere, some time ago, I suggested the status messages be split into two sections: on-going messages, and omnipresent UI feedback (such as selection info).

Matt agrees, and had a mock-up, but it didn't "get much love", so it stalled.

Perhaps more votes will help rekindle the idea.

Since I do massive amounts of I/O daily in curating the tags on my 3tb database (all mp3), I would like to see a 'speedometer' added onto the "saving tag changes" message.  In the meantime, is there an app or gadget I could use to measure I/O, for example, using different A/V applications, including Malwarebytes, which might be inspecting every tune?  And what would be producing a dead stall while I am writing this?  "Normal" rate ranges from 1 to 5 seconds per tune...

In another thread on the forum I noticed some discussion of virus checking slowdown caused by certain A/V applications but nobody named names.  I would like to settle on a suite that is user-friendly to MC I/O processing.

I acknowledge that my middle-aged desktop is ram-deficient and that I haven't found a USB3 hub yet for my rack of external drives.

I'm in the exact same shoes as you nickeaston. I did in fact acquire a USB3 hub a couple of days ago after just having moved by over to JRiver from iTunes and it doesn't seem to have a great deal of impact unfortunately. The tags are stored relatively slow for me as well with a normal rate of 1 song per second for me. I wonder what the actual limitation for this is because any A/V shouldn't have much interference with the writing of tags to HDD.

I will also take the opportunity to vote on what mentioned earlier in the thread. :)

I have found this to be a real nuisance at times. The suggestion by MrC would be a good improvement.

Thanks.

Maybe mentioned...but what about a hover shows the Tags Remaining. I don't need a live count of the status.

If a close of MC is made, a simple popup option reporting the current tagging state could pop-up offering to close MC when finished tagging etc.

Agreed!  (If I may resurrect an old request...)
