Several months ago I upset my wife by getting my old turntable + vinyl collection down from the loft, hooking it up to the PC (that's the bit that upset her, cables not long enough, living room rearranged to accomodate;)) and spent the best part of a week recording wav files.

I've long since put away the hardware and have been editing a bit here and a bit there, pretty pleased with the results too. There was this nagging thing though that the tracks were playing too fast. Was a really subtle thing I only picked up here and there with the odd track.... decided I was imagining things....

Was doing more editing today and got that feeling again. I ripped dylans "street legal" even though I also own the cd , so, I ripped the cd too for some comparison, and you know, I was right. It is only slight, and I seem to be the only one here able to pick it up, but the wavs are running faster.

I've had a quick think about this and am 99.99% certain this is because of crappy hardware (turntable spining faster than 33 rpm) which leads me to this......

If I were to use an editor like goldwave to reduce the playback rate slightly on the wavs, is this likely to cause problems later on with regards to conversions? My plan is to have high bitrate mp3 or mpc (undecided atm) on the HD and ape files for burning to cd.

See, the trick here is; does she have any albums she wants transfered? My wife is always asking me for some obscure 80's thing she grew up listening to and the conversation always ends up with "well we have it on vinyl, can you..." and so there you go! No complaints! Get her on you're side.

Yes, that should work fine as long as your "slow down" occurs in pitch or time compression, just don't mess with the sample rate and it'll move on without problems.
