JR Tools
« on: January 18, 2017, 01:13:05 pm »

I have JRiver on two computers.Want to delete from one. Did an uninstall but keep getting message.  C/windows/system32/mc22.exe
Failed to load JR Tools
Now when I open  a song or a photo this message comes up and i have to tell system to open in another window. This on each photo or song. Once changed ok in future but don't want to have to continue to do this on every song or photo. How do I make it go away?
Thanks,  WP Steve

Are you doing this on Windows (your given directory path isn't in the canonical Windows form, since it uses slashes rather than backslashes)? If Windows, which level? Windows 10?

Apparently your uninstallation method left behind some settings (not uncommon; it's hard to find everything). I think your left-behind information is the "open with" association of your file type, eg, .flac (or .ape or ...). I usually can change the default "open with" association by opening Windows File Explorer, navigating to a directory containing a file with the filetype I want to change, right-clicking on such a file and choosing Properties: There I will see "opens with" and a Change button. Here I can make a change. The result should apply to all files with the given filetype.

In Windows 10, you can get the same result by right-clicking on the Taskbar, choosing Settings, searching for "default program," clicking on 'select a default app for each type of file' and scrolling down to the intended filetype. If you click on the current default, you should be able to make a change; in fact, you should see JRiver MC as one of the offered possibilities.

You said before that you uninstalled. What did you use then?

Install MC22 again, use JRiver's uninstall, then reboot.

Did that and it got worse !  Went to the registration and removed everything I could find that referred to JR. Still all the music files when I try to open then wants to use JR.  I can go to properties  for each song and tell it to open them with something else but this could tie up the rest of my life. I was able on JPEGs to tell it to use another program but can't do that with the music files. Any ideas ?
Is there phone help somewhere ?
Thanks  Steve

In Windows File Explorer (C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe), navigate into a directory with one of the files you'd like to play. Double-click on such a file: Are you prompted to supply JRiver? In any event, dismiss the prompt (assuming there is one). Right-click on the file and click on Properties. The pop-up will have a piece saying "Opens with." What is its current value?

Curiously, in my case, a .flac file I've ripped says "Open with" Groove Music. I don't know what Groove Music is, and I don't consciously use it. I use only JR MC.

I'm using Windows 10 x64 and MC 22.0.54.

If you don't want MC to manage a filetype, set the options you do want under File Types.

Try a Google search for "file associations", just to learn a little about how they work.

Groove Music is the default system app on Windows 10 to open music files.

Like Jim said, Google how to change file associations in Windows XP.

I don't work for JRiver... I help keep the forums safe from "male enhancements" and other sources of sketchy pharmaceuticals.

I used both JR and Windows uninstall and icons from JR are still every where. As I said with JPEGS I could change the "open with " but not on wav files or music files.   Have lots of music files.

Set your file associations to whatever program you want.  If you don't understand, please do a Google search.
