Multiple 'Album Artists' not appearing as different Artists
« on: January 23, 2017, 01:49:54 pm »

I've been playing with the 'Album Artists' field and I don't think it's working as it should for me. It's supposed to be a semi-colon separated list but I'm not seeing and separation of artists, they are being treated as one entity.

Using Mark Knopfler as an example in the first picture he only appears as 'Chet Atkins;Mark Knopfler (Album Artist)'.
The second image shows how the tags are set.

So (to me) it looks right from the tags, but is not working as I expect it to.  I guess I'm doing something wrong. Can anyone help?

Have tried a space; just edited one track so I get entries with and without a space.

Actually I think it is working as intended. searching either of those artists would bring up both if there listed on that album

Erm, but then it's just sub-string matching and you can put anything between the artist names. (I've tried just a space and \\ with the same results.)

I'm expecting Mark Knopfler(Album Artist) to appear in the search suggestions if the tag is really being treated as list of artists. For me I believe it's treating "Chet Atkins; Mark Knopfler" as a single artist at the moment and just sub-string matching.

Edit: Maybe you are right. Maybe it is working and that's how it works but it does look like it's sub-string matching as it doesn't appear to matter what separator is used. . . That's what's confusing me.

Yeah I'm not sure either.....I'm getting the same results as you and if I remember correctly it's been that way since my first time with MC18  I'm sure a guru will step in soon to let us know.

The Artist field supports lists.
Album Artist is singular.

In Artist "Chet Atkins; Mark Knopfler" is two list items.
In Album Artist "Chet Atkins; Mark Knopfler" is a single item.

The correct tagging procedure would be to only fill out the Artist tag, so that Album Artist (auto) lists "(Multiple Artists)".

If you want "Chet Atkins and Mark Knopfler" to be treated as a singular entity - if they have done several collaborations together for example - you would put that in the Album Artist field.

So "And" is what Spike1000 is looking for. Thanks RD James

Ah, it's my misunderstanding. I had it in my head it was the other way around with Artist being singular and and Album Artist being a list. D'oh!  :(

Thanks for your help in clarifying.
