"Imported 1468 new files. Skipped 5 files (Filename too long)"
« on: February 12, 2017, 04:05:57 pm »

Attempted to imported 1473 new files into JRiver (that I previously ripped with dbPoweramp). 1468 of the files imported just fine, however 5 of them were "skipped" because their filenames (song titles) were too long. I can shorten their names and then try re-importing them again, but my question first is: What is the maximum number of characters allowed in a given (song title) filename for JRiver to successfully import it? I looked all over the Wiki but couldn't find an answer. Thanks in advance!!

You can also enable the experimental option to support extra long filenames.

Thanks Matt=) Found it under "General" options. It successfully imported this song/filename that didn't work before:

Suite "Ran" - 組曲「乱」 [A. Prologue: The Sky Distorting Too Much - プロローグ・歪みすぎた空/ B. A Klaxon Of Dr. Strange-Love - ストレンジ・ラヴ博士のクラクション/ C. Parallax Company - パララックス・カンパニー/ D. Great Parallax - グレイト・パララックス/ E. Epilogue: Crimson Children - エピローグ・真紅の子供たち]

Being "Experimental", are there any known problems with using this option that I should be aware of other than just a file not successfully importing?

Thanks again!

Windows (especially versions older than 10) doesn't fully/reliably support extra long filenames, so if you try to do a file operation in MC you may get unpredictable results.  In windows 10 it more or less works, but windows does some silly tricks to shorten the longer filenames so they don't show up with their actual filename in the filesystem (analogous to what windows 95 used to do with file names longer than 8 characters).

^^^ Thanks for the response. I run Windows 10... and... so far so good. I'll pay particularly close attention to longer filenames, appreciate the info=)
