Analyze Audio when replacing video files
« on: June 02, 2017, 10:53:26 am »

In my auto import configuration, I have "Analyze Audio for Video Files" enabled.  But I've found that when a video file is replaced with a file of the same name, the audio is not automatically re-analyzed.  Other metadata attributes are updated thanks to "Update for External Changes" being enabled.

I'm frequently replacing video files (for example, downloaded TV shows first in lower quality, then later in higher quality) so I'd like to see this feature added where audio is automatically re-analyzed when the file is replaced.

MC can't tell if a file was replaced or if just some tags were updated, and you wouldn't want everything to re-analyze just when tags change, so this isn't as easy as it may sound.

Yes, I can see how that would be difficult.  However, I don't think it would be a problem if "re-analyze audio on file changes" were added as an option, defaulting to disabled of course.  And since metadata is normally stored in sidecar files for video anyway, file changes should be a rare occurrence.
