Please fix Slideshow
« on: March 16, 2017, 01:54:25 am »

A breaking change was introduced a few releases back which makes it so a slideshow is paused when the user manually advances, say by pressing Next. Additionally, the pan and zoom animation is no longer applied on manual advances. I think it would be pretty hard to argue that this change is an improvement over the old behavior, so I'm confused about why it was made. I've brought it up before, and asked for a fix, but was ignored. I suggested either add an option to control the behavior, or make it so Play advances the slideshow without pausing, which would an OK compromise. I also suggested that Play really should resume a paused slideshow, regardless. Now, my question is why not do something to fix this? Why would you purposefully degrade the user's experience without even offering an option for it?

When the slideshow is stopped because of manually changing or zooming the image, you can resume the slideshow by pressing the play button (Ctrl+P).  Doesn't that work for you?

Thanks.

You didn't respond to my requests to please do something to restore the previous functionality.

Ctrl+P does resume, but pressing Play on the remote does not.

I just tested with my trusty MCE remote.

I start a slideshow.  Then I zoom so the slideshow halts.

Then pressing "Pause" on the remote starts playback up again.

You're right that "Play" on the remote doesn't do anything, and I'm not sure why that is.

I did respond.  You didn't like the answer.

This is the thread in question: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,109209.msg759358.html#msg759358
I guess that's a matter of perception. There is no response from you specifically addressing my question as to whether you could make an option for the behavior or change it so pressing Play on a running slideshow advances without resuming.

So the question still stands. Will you do one of those two suggestions? If not, why not? I'm having a really hard time understanding, and I would like to.

That's my experience. But the pause button on my remote is a small button far away from the play button. I have to look to find it. Its very inconvenient. Of course it wasn't be much of an issue when the slideshow didn't pause on manual advance. I frequently manually advance when I run a slideshow. I really can't understand why you guys don't seem to care.

Coming next build:
Changed: Made pressing the play button on a remote resume a paused image slideshow from switching tracks manually, zooming, etc.

For the record, I'm no fan of pausing on a manual advance either.

Having said that, if I'm manually advancing, I'm usually rating images & hence have the mouse in hand, so it's a minor pain rather than a really big issue.

Option please?

Coming next build:
NEW: Added Options > Images > Stop slideshow on manual changes to optionally keep a slideshow running during manual changes (defaults to on).
