why does my maddox 52x rip slowly, then fast

sometimes, it zooms at 12-15; on a few cds it stuck at 2.4 and hung.  it seems to work ok--i can burn to it and play cds

my dvd drive always rips poifect.

any ideas??

depends on the media format, encoder, and your rip settings.

just because a drive tells you 52x does not mean you can rip at 52x

thanks--i'm aware of that--it's just that it's inconsistent--at times, it sticks at 1-2.5; ususally, it's at like 15-17--it zooms!!

If you're using secure mode, it'll slow down if there are possible errors on the disk.

Otherwise, it could be encoder lag.  Try it with no encoder (uncompressed WAV) and see if it still happens.
