Moving "Genre" to anywhere and back
« on: July 11, 2003, 12:38:04 pm »

Here ,what i would like to do.

Move 'Genre ' to ,i do not know where, Comment or any custom field.

And after moving it back to genre.

Anyway to do such a thing?
I mean 30-40.000 songs at once .
I do not use Genre - I use it as a kind of 'notes' , where i put any kind of infos [toFTP, or ToDoDad, or 22=no sleeve  or 11= tags and sleeve fine ect ect]

I do not use MC to tag ,so Genre is the case to use for compatibility.

I want to upload songs infos to YADB. But genre would be upload as well ,therefore i would like to be able to move for one or two days Genre to anywhere

How about taking a backup from library, choosing NOT to tag files and just deleting genre data from library. Then upload to YADB and finally restore from backup.

Don't know if this works for you. Just something that came to my mind.

Have you tried with the "Move/Copy Fields" feature? Try with a small batch and see if it works right for you... obviously not the 30.000 tracks at once  :)

It's under
Tools > Library Tools

"Move/Copy Fields' is the way to go.

Thank you.

Concerning 30.000 songs..who knows?

If MC is in a good mood it can works..
During the night with only MC working
