CLI necessary to install MC on Mint?

(1/2) > >>

pepar:
I had been having keyboard lag issues and entering all of the lines into terminal to set up APT repository .. and then install MC ... in LinuxMint was a frustrating mess, so I simply installed MC22 from the file on my desktop. It installed fine, noted all dependencies were met and worked fine as well.

Is there some functionality I won't have from skipping all the repository stuff?

Jeff

BryanC:
You won't get automatic updates from the repo. You can just download the updates from here instead and install them manually (as you just did).

pepar:
Thanks.  Is there a way to retroactively point to the repository?  A setting in MC, perhaps?

Awesome Donkey:
Well, if you add the APT repository after you've installed the .deb file then run sudo apt-get update it'll enable automatic updates from the repo. But if you want to do it manually you can check the forums semi-often to look for updates, then download and manually install them.

Strange about the keyboard lag. Where do you see this at, exactly?

pepar:
I have been having a lot of "issues" blocking me from first setting up a VM, including mouse lag and keyboard lag.  As an extra twist, sometimes the quickest keypress I can muster causes repeating characters.  Entering passwords and CLI text experiences have been silly.  That is why I hit upon clicking a mouse.  :)

Fortunately, at least until I get it set up as I would like it, I have my unRAID box sitting next to my PC workstation and can go back and forth between VNC on the workstation and VNC on the unRAID box.  The keyboard on the unRAID box works properly "nearly" all of the time.
