Why is The Conversion Cache Importing ??
« on: May 11, 2017, 10:06:23 am »

I have just manually run Import , now I see a whole load of MP3 files that have been imported from the Conversion Cache (I recently synced my iPod from MC and converted on the fly to MP3)

My Library is   F:\MusicLibrary
My Conversion Cache is E:\Converted\JRiver Conversion Cache Ipod 80
My Video Library if G:\

My Import Config is Set up to import only F: and G

The Config doesn't mention the E Drive at all ...

Confused

It looks like 2 albums I was importing (new versions) have been duplicated with their MP3 partners

Curious but not a train smash

Pretty Please

I am still seeing this , if I import an album that has an MP3 equivalent in the Conversion Cache , they both import despite the conversion cache NOT being a watched folder

Right click on an album and select "Library Tools | Convert format". Then click the Options link on the lower left. One of the options in the Mode section is to leave the original and add the converted format to the library. Is that checked?

No

its -- Leave Original File and do not add destination file to library

This is not happening when I am converting , its when doing Manual Import

Do you have the destination folder added to your folders MC is watching?

No that's the odd part

I have 2 HDD F:\Music and G:\Video both configured to be watched

My other drive is my "Working Stuff" E:\Mikes Drive

In Import Config its just F & G that are "watched".

There not more than one place you can set watched folders that I don't know about is there?

It happens when I import a new copy of a FLAC file where there is already a copy as MP3 in the Conversion Cache

Where do you see them, what's the view config?

An easy "fix" is to specifically exclude E: in the view

This has been going on for a long long time.  I have rules in my smartlists these days to ignore cache locations for this reason and, every now and then, I go through the library and manually delete the imports.

FWIW i dont use the cache. Conversion is quick so I dont see the point of wasting space for it.  I too had that problem before syncing handhelds

Even if you don't use a cache it's no guarantee MC isn't doing so in the background for some files... the whole caching thing is a bit "broken"...

Sounds like I have stumbled on a bug !

The only reason for the cache is that I haven't finished loading the iPod, I want to just add a few tracks occasionally , so keeping the cache makes sense rather than re convert each time.

I am right that this shouldn't be happening .
