Not interested in anything but stereo
« on: May 03, 2017, 02:30:06 pm »

I saw zero progress for audiophiles during last year.

Not interested in anything else.

Just stereo

I would of thought the SoX resampler and the new memory playback options would have appealed very much to audiophiles.

Also wasn't TPDF dithering added during the MC22 development cycle? Can't remember off the top of my head - if it was, that's three.

Other than what's already available (and could be added) in MC, what *could* there be left to add for audiophile users?

Not that these would be "needed" by me, but some points I remember reading here that might please audiophiles:
- more flexibility in sox settings
- more flexibility in dsd settings
- an "audio only" mode that actually deactivates anything not needed for audio playback
- 64bit version in order to better support memory playback

It would be a lot more appealing if it loaded an album/zone into memory instead of just the currently playing track, like originally planned.
Trying to play tracks over a network connection is still very unresponsive as a result, as it has to re-open the connection and download the next track, instead of pulling it from memory - or even a local disk cache.

Though I would like 64-bit for improved memory playback, MC needs 64-bit for high resolution/high framerate video playback.
High framerate 4K videos - or videos interpolated to 100 FPS with SVP - cause MC to crash instantly.
No such issues in 64-bit media players.

- more flexibility in sox settings

MC only uses the SoX resampler, that's it. Not sure if there's any flexibility there to be had.

- an "audio only" mode that actually deactivates anything not needed for audio playback

This has already been an option since at least MC21. Go to View then enable Audio Only Mode. That simple!

regarding sox: yes, you're right. but i guess there's more to sox than just one resampling functionality: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,105946.msg736952.html#msg736952

regarding audio mode: i was of the impression that this hides stuff not related to playback but does not really "deactivate" it: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,109807.msg759430.html#msg759430

Features that are not used also don't use any resources. There is nothing to "deactivate", because there is nothing running.

don't get me wrong. i do not use this audio only mode. i deactivate all things in "features" that i do not use/need and i'm good.
the question was, what audiophiles might want and i think that hiding parts of the gui is not what audiophiles (might) consider as an audio only mode, that's it.

It makes no difference. If you don't execute the code, then it isn't running. It's just bytes on the hard drive.

...pls improve DSP GUI panel section to add the possibility to have multi detached windows for each listed feature...so
i can view at same time Analyzer, Parametric Equalizer, and more windows for each VST i add on the audio chain...it would be great!

Audiophiles feed usually pure signal to the DAC.
[ and I am a minority, running Dirac room correction ]

I reported on various threads, things like reworked PCM/DSD dialogs format router to adjust compatibility with various DACs (downsampling, bitstream, etc.)

Frankly I don't have a long list.. Mentioned before online services.. Ability to work with Roon as a client (similar to HQplayer).

It should be something appealing, right? so I will buy an upgrade
