Hi there, I still have JRiver MC21...I have a major disappointment of buying Itunes music over the years and this music has something called DRM which means it is protected. In other words will only work with Itunes and will not work on JRiver..
Well I am baffled as I do recall on the set up process JRiver asked if I wanted to allow it to play Itunes files..and I thought great...but in actual fact every time I try to play an itunes purchase it asks me to download the new version of quick time..which I had already done..but actually when you are on the page to download this new version of quicktime it actually stats that Apple no longer uses quick time.
Also in laymans terms what are the things to get excited about when upgrading to version 22? thanks anyone hehe!

The AAC files from the iTunes store do not come with DRM for a very long time now. These files play fine in my MC. Back in the day, Apple offered to update the 128kb/sec DRM files to 256 kb/sec without DRM.

Thanks Francswilko...but yes my Itunes purchases are more than 3 years old..so they are protected files but I am using ITunes match to convert them...a lot more difficult than I thought as a lot of times it is matching all tracks in a purchased album but one track..has done this with a lot of my purchased albums, so it is a very frustrating process. For ex 28 weeks later score...it matched all the tracks but would not match track 16, yet it is from the very same purchased album..so very frustrating and time consuming..just as well I have a whole year to get them.

Yeah, Apple/iTunes Match will probably help you with obtaining non-DRM files from Apple, but sadly it seems to have its own type of issues.

yes awesome donkey, I got it and have it for a year but like everything else regarding the itunes software it is not straight forward, although I am getting most of them..thanks though!

Just saying. I don't have it. Haven't tried it. I'm not affiliated with them at all.

Of course using that software would mean you don't get the "upgraded" 256 Kb/s versions of songs, but if that doesn't matter to you, it would be a quick way to get the result you want.

I've purchased SO MANY CDs in the past 3 years.  ...and almost all of them were under $5.  I've purchased a LOT of CDs for $1 to $3.  A few for $0.50 or $0.75 .  CDs are, in my opinion, the least expensive, most guaranteed way to get full resolution audio for the songs and albums you want.  Yes, you have to rip them, but that's generally 5 minutes or less of just waiting for it to happen.  Very little effort.  Just throwing that out there.

Cassettes are the future mate, you're hanging on to the old ways

There's a record store here in town that specializes in vinyl records.  That's about 95% of their inventory.  They also have a few thousand used CDs that I sort through sometimes.  What really blows my mind though is that they sell cassettes too!  About 70% older cassettes, but there are "new" ones too.  Apparently bands with a small budget still put out cassettes because the media is cheap for the band.  Then it sells for very cheaply to the consumer also.  Weird.  But true.

Yes it i s great to see these old formats come back...I actually have 3 big card board boxes full of CD's...most of my Itunes library is this, and then i do have some vinyl...all imported to itunes in WAV uncompressed format...but the trouble is years ago when I first got Itunes, I bought an odd track here and there..and an album here and there and then I discovered about compression on online purchases..so I stoppped buying, this is why my Itunes purchases are old as I haven't bought any itunes purchases in a long time..but I gone through all my Itunes purchases and realized I had spent around $960 on there over the years..so I would like to get my itunes purchases rather than literally bin them, so I still have them and with Itunes match they will be better quality than they were before...I just want to cut itunes out of my life...I hate it..I am glad I discovered JRiver...if I can only get my purchases all matched up..that's it bye bye Itunes..I can not stand apple either...had big issues with their devices..and a friend of mines is getting a samsung and had nothing but bother with her iphone...so overall I can not stand compressed music...I can not stand Itunes..I can not stand Apple...like even with Itunes match..nothing they make is easy to work with...itunes update...then playlists disappear etc..I just don;t want to throw $960 in the bin that's why I am doing this.
