WASAPI not working

First use of version 23.xx.  WASAPI did not work;  direct sound to the correct output device did (realtec optical) . Windows 10

Windows did know that there was a problem as an error note came up.

Changing to direct sound  sound output.

I updated to Windows 10 created version and WASPI works.
