Does IPod Touch work with MC23?
« on: January 15, 2020, 11:05:19 pm »

Just a simple question:

Does MC23 sync with an IPod Touch (newest version)? If not, can it be done using the latest MC... I could always spring for an update if needed. I think this would be something like the 6th version I've had.

In the past, MC had some issues with Apple products and sometimes it has been challenging to get it to work but I've always been able to get it done. I've been using IPod Classics with MC23 (I've had previous versions going back as far as Media Jukebox 5). Since the Classics have been out of production for some time, I'm considering getting a touch. My car natively plays back the Classic on it's head unit and that convenience makes it very useful.

I know that Apple is renowned for 'not playing well with others'. I've even had to fight it a few times myself and with the exception of my IPod, I am a staunch anti-Apple person. I also REFUSE to use ITunes for any media and instead use JRiver. Apple's hardware, however, is solid.

If it turns out that the Touch doesn't work, I'm considering a Fiio M11 as an alternative. As a second question does anyone reading this know if MC will sync with the Fiio? If not it would be no big deal since I could always just move files and playlists to the Fiio's micro SD card with my computer. I'd rather use the IPod, though, as that would cost me a lot less money since I wouldn't need to add an extra component to my Audison DSP/AMP setup in the car ($$$$ more).

Unless I'm mistaken (and I don't think I am), but I don't think the iOS-powered iPod Touch can be connected and managed by MC, only the older non-Touch, non-iOS iPod Classic models.

And I don't think it's a feature MC can gain either, since Apple locks down the environment of their iOS devices pretty good. Probably gonna need iTunes for that.

I don't work for JRiver... I help keep the forums safe from "male enhancements" and other sources of sketchy pharmaceuticals.

Thanks for the reply, Awesome Donkey. I was afraid of that.

P.S. I see the Schiit DACs in your signature. Do you use a separate DAP, and do you have any recommendations for one with a digital out (preferably that doesn't need a separate DAC)?
