What is the exact command line you are using to try to install the license?

The command:
mediacenter23 /RestoreFromFile "Media Center23 Master-YYYYYY.mjr"
From the directory where I downloaded it.

Problem solved! I uninstalled and reinstalled, deleting the configuration directories. Then I applied the license and ... everything resolved.
Thank you very much!

Problems installing MC23. Getting this error message:
E: The repository 'http://ppa.launchpad.net/me-davidsansome/clementine/ubuntu bionic Release' does not have a Release File.
N: Updating from such a repository can't be done securely, and is therefore disabled by default.
N: See apt-secure (8) manpage for repository creation and user configuration details.

Thanx

That's an error caused by that outdated Clementine repo, and not MC's. I'd recommend removing it from your list of repositories since 1) that repo hasn't been updated in two years and doesn't have support for Ubuntu 18.04 LTS Bionic Beaver and 2) surely Clementine bundled with Ubuntu is newer than that version offered in that repo.

Thanks for your help. Got it sorted out.
MEANTIME...trying unsuccessfully, so far, to install 23 on another machine using Debian 10(Buster). This line just isn't working: "usermod -a -G adm, audio youruser"
Any clues?

Well, are you substituting youruser with the name of your user account? If not, that's why.

Only other thing I can think of is, are you adding sudo before usermod, e.g. sudo usermod -a -G adm, audio yourusername ?

Because I just tested it in my Debian 10 Buster virtual machine and it works.
