Cover Art Finder Plug-In Released.
« on: June 24, 2003, 09:30:17 am »

Someone Said they Would Like To Have A Cover Art Only Plug-in So I Striped Out My Cover Art Code From Chart Finder, Found And Fixed Some Bugs And Re-Compiled It Into A Stand Alone Plug-In.

It Is Up For Download In Plug-Ins

King,

re: cover art, a great option would be to have a checkbox to have your plugin remove internal cover art if need be.  I am finding that I have to remove internal cover art in MC before your pugin will look it up.  This internal art will not display in your plugin.

I am sure you know what I am talking about.

I don't think there is an option to remove Cover Art In The MC9 SDK.

MC9 has a problem with over writing a file with internal cover art with a newer art file.

In MC9 if a file has cover art internal or external, and you use MC9's cover art finder, even if you use the option always get cover art, it will not overwrite any cover art it already has for the file.

Untill that is corrcted (and i have posted that in the bug thread before) i don't think the plugin will ever do what your asking.

so i think that is an MC9 bug

Gotcha now, thanks you are right, MC9 will not overwrite an existing files cover art, but there is a "remove cover art" option that works.  From a usability standpoint, if you could just put a remove cover art button in your plugin that would be great.  Then I would not have to go back and fourth between your plugin and playing now.  Does the "clear" button do this and if so is it just for the selected file or the whole list?

the MC9 SDK must support that, and i don't think it does.

I just checked, i see no such option in the MC9 SDK

Just Putting A Button On The Screen Saying "Remove Image" is not going to make it work. it needs to be part of the SDK.

King
Are you going to Emusic in the search for art cover ?

I have around 15.000 songs without cover from Emusic  and would like to try your plugin

It will find the art for all the files that are in the Now playing folder.

I am not sure how to put the picture to the tag from there, I'm still playing with it

select only files with no Coverart Image

if it has one and you don't likt it, remove the image file in MC9 so the image field is blank

it should put a path to the file that should be in your cover art folder. if you wish it to save an internal image just turn that option on in MC9.180 (not sure about MC9.1 that has been changed) and update of the tegs should force mC9 to save the image in the media file.

Internal saving works for me with MC 9.1.

I've been following discussions on cover-art for a while now and always it's about cover-art of albums.
What about cover-art of singles? (you know: those 7''-things in the old days).
My complete collection consists of singles which have charted, so I'm only looking for these.

Any suggestion if this can be done with the plugin?

If the single is available from Wal Mart or Amazon then Kings plug in should be able to find the cover for it.  Just make sure that the setting to remove any extra info in brackets is turned on and if necessary remove the word single from the Name to find cover art.  You can always replace it later.  I have managed to find cover art for most of my singles so you should be able to do it.

Thanks, Adam, I've tried the plugin, but it doesn't work for me.
When I try to find the cover of the Sweet - Poppa Joe I get the cover of Sweet home Alabama.
The one for an international big hit like Band Aid - Do they know it's christmas isn't found at all. Remember: this band has never had an album of their own - and there are many more one-hit-wonders with that same problem, so cover-art won't be found for them at all.

King, i'd say an extra option would do the trick: add the possibility to search on Artist - Name (i.c. title). Is that theoretically and technically possible?
Would you consider it?

the problem is that most of the time the song name will not be found since they most of the time don't list the songs.

some do not allow for searching of the song name with the artist name and or album name.

Jeez, now that's a bummer.
Guess I have to find them all by myself.

Anyone some suggestions for some good sites for this?

You can try Goggle search  ,clicking on image.
Enter the title of the song with " "

" how are you " will generate a search based on the words inside the " , not on each words.

Put always rock band :
> Sweet rock band  >may give you much better answers.

I do it for my obscure rip === most of my rip........

By the way

Are your 7" riped from vinyl.
In this case you may get faster results by scanning the sleeves

Thanks Zevele. I ripped most of my songs from c.d. - but thanks for the hint anyway - some of the songs I got on vinyl too.

Thanks for the Google-link too, as an example. That was the result of a search-request. Could you tell me how you formulated that search? "Sweet - Poppa Joe" "cover art" gives zero results and "Sweet - Poppa Joe" cover art gives no good results.

Thanks in advance

When you search on Google , at the top you have few icones
Webb Images groups...

When you get the results ,just click on  Images.

I did "poppa joe" ,just it.

The more you can 'say' to Google you are searching for music ,the best it is.
Because you get links to records sellers who put some sleeves on they pages.

So Sweet alone is not good.
You will get thousand picture of any kind of 'sweet'
sweet rock band may be better
sweet us rock band if there is an US and english band of great help if you are looking for the US one.

Now "poppa joe " with the " is like searching one word.
This you get an accure results .
The song and -if there is - a movie a brand of food  ect ,but all results related to the full expression

For Band Aid :
" do they know..."
result :

Good luck
