Theater View and JRemote -- Albums with the same name
« on: August 31, 2017, 08:16:49 am »

Still relatively new here. I have a few albums with the same name (for example, Brahms: Piano Concertos Nos. 1 and 2). In standard View, these show up as separate albums, I'm guessing because MC sees that they have different artists. In Theater View and JRemote, however, all the tracks from all the albums get bunched together. Is there any way to get them to display as separate albums, short of re-titling them? Thank you.

Theatre views and JRemote views are not the same as standard views

You need to make the views to show what you want.  Which standard view are you using that gives what you want?

The Standard View view is called Album and it works the way I want it to. When I select Album in JRemote and Theater View it behaves differently.

It's strange.  I think the Standard Views have some sort of special rules baked into them that prevent things like this.  Because the Standard View "Albums" just uses the field [Album] as it's category and it clearly divides albums with the same name into different albums when they are by different artists.

But JRemote's views don't seem to have these same "magic rules" built in to them.  Luckily you can easily fix this.

Tools > Options > Media Network > Advanced > Customize views for JRemote...

Then find the Albums view, or just make a new one.  For Categories, use an expression something like:

[Album] [Album Artist (auto)]

Then save that, restart MC, and restart JRemote.  That should group your albums by Album name coupled with Artist Name.  You might also need to change the Display Expression, but I'm not sure.  I can't test it right now to verify.

Good luck.

Brian.

Thank you very much! I did what you suggested (my first attempt at using MC's expressions!) and it worked like a charm. I was also able to use this method to separate the albums under the Composer view in JRemote. And I found the similar settings for Theater View, so I was able to fix the problems there.

Very nice.  Glad you were able to not only use the technique, but also adapt it to other views and modes.  Very nice indeed.  :)
