Uninstalling 32-Bit - "Best" Way?
« on: September 15, 2017, 04:24:28 pm »

When Uninstalling MC's 32 Bit (64 Bit already installed and working).  You get the Uninstall GUI, where "Remove all Media Center registry entries" are checked.  Don't x64 and x86 share the same registry settings?   ...and hence should you uncheck this option?

Thanks
Nathan

If I recall correctly some of the registry settings for 32-bit apps are stored in a different area in the registry (WOW6432Node).

I'm not sure what will happen with the shared registry settings like in "Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JRiver" and "HKEY_CURRENT_USER, SOFTWARE\JRiver\"

So I uninstalled 32-Bit and left the default option checked "Remove all Media Center registry entries" and lost my settings.  Needed to do a Restore from backup (just the settings) and all looks fine.

I installed 64bit and all was good. Uninstalled 32bit and lost all settings in 64bit. Fortunately I have a backup as well.

That was what I expected.

So the 32 version of the JTV DirectShow filter has now been uninstalled. Did you keep a copy separately to register manually and test the JTV to TS conversion utility?

No luck on the registering of the MJTSFileReader 32Bit filter - I've opened a thread in the TV Sub Forum

From my experience with migration to 64 bit on two PCs, I recommend the following:

1 - Backup library and settings (I backed up to a new folder I created in the root directory of a hard drive, not in the user folder);
2 - Uninstall the 32 bit version with all options unchecked (do not delete anything);
3 - Install 64 bit version;
4 - Restore library and settings;
5 - If necessary, reinstall the license.

I backupped my library, uninstalled and checked to delete and remove everything.

Installed the 64-bit, added license, cancelled auto import, and imported my library and settings. Restarted MC and noticed WDM driver was checked but not active.

Unchecked WDM and rechecked it, had to restart Windows.

Everything seems to work fine so far.
