how to get files imported into artist folders?
« on: June 30, 2003, 11:44:10 am »

when i import media some files go to specific folders for the artist in media library, but a lot of them are going to the 'unassigned' folder, which is a bit of a pain.  how do i make sure my files go automatically to the right artist folder.  is it something to do with the tags?  help please, thanks, nick.  ?

The tags are wrong, so you have two choices:

  • Drag-n-drop the files to that artist in the tree -- they'll be imported and tagged in one swoop

  • Import and then fix the file properties using any of the many ways in MC

Do you mean MC does not recognize the singer voice and automatically tag files?

I suggest future versions do that  ;D   ;D   ;D

Well, actually YADB track lookup does do that, so I guess that's option 3 :P

(Library Tools -> Lookup Track Info From YADB)

thanks for the info re tags matt.  the problem i have been having is with tracks that i have ripped using exact audio copy.  is there a way that i can set this up so that it tags my files correctly.  i have a lot of cds to archive and would rather not have to do it manually everytime.  thanks, nick. :)

You can use FreeDB to look up CDs when using EAC. Then make sure you that it is set to tag the files during ripping/encoding.

Why do you want to rip with EAC?  MC has great secure ripping too, so you may be able to use it for everything.

CUE Sheets.

That's the only reason. If you guys implemented that, I'd drop EAC in a heartbeat.

does MC have a secure rip function similar to EACs? (with features for accurate steam/C2 errors, etc.).  The EAC people lead me to believe that there is no equivalent ripper to theirs and that SERIOUS audiophiles wouldn't look anywhere else.  it would be lovely to have one program that did the lot.  can anyone help me see the wood through the trees?????

thanks, nick.

Well, first of all what format are you using? I'm going to assume mp3. :) Are you ripping/encoding at the same time? EAC won't add tags if you're using it to encode previously ripped waves. I'm also assuming you're using LAME as an external encoder.

Go to Compression Options (F11). On the External Compression tab, check Use External Program For Compression. In the Paramter Passing Scheme drop down list choose User Defined Encoder.* Make sure you point it to lame.exe using the Browse button. In Additional Command Line Options put the parameters you want to use.** For example, --alt-preset standard %s %d. Put a check in Add ID3 Tag.

Go to the ID3 Tag tab. Put a check in the first two boxes (assuming you want to use both ID3v1 and v2 tags), but not the third.

Rob

* Setting this option ensures that EAC will use only the encoding parameters listed in Additional Command Line Options.

** Recommended LAME Settings:

thanks rob,

i am trying to use EAC to compress to ape files using external compression.  i am using the settings under waveform (by declicking external compression tab) in the compression options menu and, even though the i am unable to click the add id3 tag (it is greyed out), i seem to be getting tags ok now.  do you know why this is?  however i am also getting an error message 'unhandled exception at 00459A07 access_violation'.  do you know what this means.  it does not appear to interfere with the ripping process.

also, do i need to click on the 'mp3' icon on the main screen for EAC to start the extraction process.  i am not trying to get mp3s, but there isn't an 'ape' icon.  is this just a general icon for any compression?  and is this procesure just the same as ripping as a .wav file and then using MAC program to compress, just quicker?
