New guy trying the free 30 day trial with a few questions
« on: October 24, 2017, 04:05:33 pm »

My first time ripping c.d.'s...I am using Windows 10 desk top and I am running a Audioengine D1 usb DAC
and from there,to my JBL305's via RCA cables and also headphone listening..my question is about the "Default Audio Device" setting, which I have set for Direct Sound...should I be using the Audioengine D1 (WASAPI) setting, which would seem like the logical choice, but not sure? What benefit would I get from using either? The 'tips' said to leave it on "Direct Sound " if I wasn't sure?!. Thanks,Huck

WASAPI runs through less of the windows audiopath shenanigans. Try it. If you don't hear a diff then stick with direct sound. If you do then you know what to do.

Seems the volume control on the D1 is more sensitive, especially at the lower volumes, when using the Audioengine D1 setting, but much quieter than using Direct Sound...don't know why?! Huck

Since you've got a Audioengine D1 you'll likely be better off using WASAPI Exclusive which bypasses the Windows mixer and gives you bit-perfect playback (unless you're using DSP). Keep in mind using WASAPI Exclusive means no other sounds (e.g. system sounds) will play while playing back media using WASAPI Exclusive. If you need system sounds or any other sounds while playing back music, you might want to stick with DirectSound.
