DSD512 on JRiver for Mac
(1/1)
MTKAP:
I am using a MacBook Pro running Elcapitan (64-bit, I think) using the USB to feed files to an OPPO-205.
JRiver doesn't seem to support DSD512 files. The Windows 64-bit version does.
I have the latest download. Am I missing something
Awesome Donkey:
If I'm not mistaken, indeed the current max limit for Mac is 4X DSD (aka DSD256) via DoP.
But then again, 8X DSD (aka DSD512) on MC for Windows is only available for native DSD output when using output format, and not DoP (which is what the MC for Mac needs and uses for DSD). If it's not available for DoP, then 4X DSD is likely the limit there. My guess is the PCM sample rates in current DACs don't go up high enough for 8X DSD via DoP support?
Paul S.A. Renaud:
If I'm not mistaken, the current max limit for Mac is 2X DSD (aka DSD128) without additional drivers for the DAC. I am only aware of one manufacturer (Exasound) which has dedicated MAC drivers and enables DSD256 play-back on a MAC Book. Oppo does not have dedicated MAC drivers.
BTW, I have not seen any DSD 512 files or play-back. No commercial label is selling DSD 512 format.
blgentry:
Sooooo, if 8x DSD files do not exist, why do people want support for this as a transmission format to a DAC? The promise of more euphonics due to the format?
Brian.
Awesome Donkey:
^ Very likely, yeah. Probably some "voodoo magic" or something of the sort.
I checked output format in MC for Mac, and indeed 4X DSD via DoP seems to be indeed the limit. Since there's no native DSD output in MC for Mac that's likely the limit - the only native DSD on Mac seems to be only available to specific DSD DACs (with ASIO for Mac support required?).
